Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU) is a trade union duly registered in terms of the Trade Unions and Employers' Organization Act and fully recognized by the employer as a bargaining agent for its members. BOPEU was founded in 2007 through the unionization transformation of the then-Botswana Civil Servants Association (BCSA).
BCSA evolved from the merge of the Bechuanaland Protectorate Junior Civil Service Association and the Bechuanaland Protectorate Senior European Service Association in 1960. The history of these two associations dates back to 1942.
BOPEU is a formidable force committed to safeguarding the rights and welfare of public employees in Botswana both from government and parastatals. With a history of advocacy and activism, BOPEU remains dedicated to promoting justice, transparency, and fairness in the workplace.
